Obstetric Conditions

Prenatal

Prenatal(antenatal) is the health care you get while you are pregnant. Take care of yourself and your baby by:

  • Getting early prenatal care. If you know you’re pregnant, or think you might be, call your doctor to schedule a visit.
  • Getting regular prenatal care. Your doctor will schedule you for many checkups over the course of your pregnancy. Don’t miss any — they are all important.
  • Following your doctor’s advice.
  • Why do I need prenatal care?

Prenatal care can help keep you and your baby healthy. Babies of mothers who do not get prenatal care are three times more likely to have a low birth weight and five times more likely to die than those born to mothers who do get care.

Doctors can spot health problems early when they see mothers regularly. This allows doctors to treat them early. Early treatment can cure many problems and prevent others. Doctors also can talk to pregnant women about things they can do to give their unborn babies a healthy start to life.

Antenatal and Postnatal

A woman’s health and behavior in pregnancy affect her baby. A poor diet, smoking, intake of alcohol, certain drugs, and severe illnesses can hold back the baby’s development. Hence during pregnancy, you should not only take good care of your own health but also go for regular checkups with your doctor. This is antenatal care and it is absolutely necessary because it makes sure that you and the baby are fit and well.

Antenatal checkups prevent most medical problems. Even if there is a problem, early detection helps to control the problem better. For example, there is a condition called pre- eclampsia in which there is weight gain, high blood pressure and stress on the kidney. This is detected by regular blood pressure checks and checking the urine for protein. A urinary tract infection during pregnancy can be detected by a simple urine analysis and its treatment helps the normal growth of the baby in the womb.

What Is Postpartum Care?

You’ve been concentrating on a healthy pregnancy and delivery, but you may not have thought about care after delivery. Right after a woman gives birth, her body goes through huge changes. Problems can happen and it’s good to know how to have a healthy postpartum phase. The postpartum period lasts from right after the delivery to eight weeks after you’ve given birth. Immediately after giving birth, you will be checked over frequently looking for signs that your body is going through the correct changes and that you don’t have complications. After you go home from the hospital, taking care of yourself is crucial. Any symptoms of infections or complications should be discussed with your doctor. You will have a postpartum doctor’s appointment between six to eight weeks after giving birth.

VBAC

If you’ve delivered a baby by C-section, you might have a choice with your next pregnancy — schedule a repeat C-section or attempt vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).

Years ago, a C-section ended any hope of future vaginal deliveries. But today, thanks largely to changes in surgical technique, VBAC is possible in many cases. In fact, an estimated 75 percent of women who try VBAC have a successful vaginal delivery.

VBAC isn’t right for everyone, though. Sometimes a pregnancy complication or underlying condition prevents the possibility of a successful VBAC. If you have any further questions please call to schedule a consultation.

Concierge Obstetrics

Congratulations!

In a single miraculous moment your journey into motherhood begins. As an Obstetrician , I know how important it is to find the right doctor to assure you of a healthy and happy maternity experience. That desire for personalized attention is what inspired me to develop the Astar Medical group program.

Having worked as an OB/GYN for the past 13 years, I’ve listened to the concerns, fears and questions Mothers face especially when having their first child. In our healthcare system that has further separated a Mothers direct access to their doctor, I sought to shift the paradigm of care to one that enables likeminded Obstetricians to offer personalized service that empowers Mothers like you to make the most informed decisions about the care for you and your baby.

At Astar Medical Group, we are fully committed to providing exceptional obstetric care for women like you: women who desire the best care, comfort and knowledge from the early stages of pregnancy all the way through to a successful delivery. You and your baby’s health and wellbeing is our number one priority. Our unique program provides unparalleled personal medical services that favor quality over quantity. Not only do we honor your birth preferences, but we also become your strongest advocates. Our certified physicians are aligned in their values and passionate to guide you through your pregnancy.

We are confident that Astar Medical represents a model of medical excellence that few can match; however, we encourage you to consider other options as well. The most important thing is for you to choose an obstetric practice that you trust to treat you and your baby as important as you truly are. I sincerely encourage every woman to take the time to interview the doctor, support staff, and past patients if possible, regardless of who they ultimately choose for their obstetric care.

If the Astar Medical program is what you desire, we look forward to sharing the joy of seeing you and your newborn baby (or babies!) smiling beautifully in the very near future.

Sincerely wishing you wellness,
Dr. A. Starikov.
